About me
Hello! My name is Logan, I am the owner of Treasure State Reeds. I am an all around reed person; if it’s made of cane I want to know about it! I graduated from the University of Montana where I received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music with extensive studies in Japanese language in the Fall of 2024.
I moved to the beautiful state of Arizona in the Fall of 2024. I moved here to pursue greater career, performance, and school opportunities. I am currently based in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
I am an active performer in Arizona and Montana. I regularly perform in the Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra, Gilbert Symphony Orchestra, Lo Blow Low Clarinet Choir (GCC, Glendale), and KLAASH Reed Quintet (ASU, Tempe). I also sit on the sub list of West Valley, Bozeman, and Helena Symphonies.
I’ve previously played in the Missoula Symphony Orchestra (Acting Principal Contrabassoon), Great Falls Symphony (Oboe/English Horn), Glacier (Bassoon, Contrabassoon, English Horn), Montana Youth Symphony (Bassoon, Contrabassoon, Oboe, English Horn), University of Montana’s Symphonic Band (Principal Bassoon), Garden City Woodwind Quintet (Oboe), and solo performance on all kinds of other reed instruments!
I have played under the batons many famous composers, maestros and musicians such as Sir Donald Runnicles, Johan de Meij, Frank Ticheli, and Julie Giroux.
I make anywhere from 200 to 400 reeds and 2,000 blanks a month! I supply reeds to major music shops across North America! I am a vendor with over a dozen well-established stores. I also sell reeds to my own students, schools, vendors, professors and colleagues.
When I was younger I was fascinated by reeds, but found them extremely daunting. It wasn’t until college that I started to heavily invest in them. Since then my skills have developed and allowed me to start selling them. It began as a single reed to my professor which eventually led to Etsy, selling in bulk, and now here!
I am fortunate enough to be able to teach bassoon, oboe, and clarinet as well as their respective reed-making processes. I have taught across Montana and the Phoenix valley, my lessons cover a variety of topics (performance, theory, aural training, and reed-making to name a few!). I teach to a wide range of students from various ages and backgrounds. My students have gone on to win auditions in All-State, All-Northwest, summer camps, and colleges. They also regularly perform solos in district/state festivals and studio recitals.
I especially emphasize each student having an experience tailored to their interests and needs. Whether it be solely performance, reed making/adjustment, pit musicals/doubling, secondary instruments, theory, chamber ensembles, or more.
My own private teachers include: Dr. Albie Micklich (bassoon), Professor Alicia McLean-Brischli (bassoon), Dr. Jennifer Cavanaugh (oboe), Dr. Holly Blanchette (oboe), and Becky Tipler (oboe), Dr. Stefanie Gardner (clarinet), Jennifer Skogley (Clarinet), Hailey Gilboe (flute), and Bruce Wurst (banjo).
I have performed in many masterclasses on different types of double reeds (oboe to contrabassoon!) with professional musicians from all walks of life. I have also taught my own masterclasses to middle & high school students in my time at my undergraduate studies at the University of Montana.
